The purpose of the Generation Why Challenge is to encourage college students to form book clubs based on the book, The Dawn of Generation Why. The Dawn of Generation Why draws upon the young adult perspective to explore issues such as developing a secure personal identity and figuring out the next steps after college. The author, Isaiah Pickens, uses narratives, poems, and short stories to discuss how college experiences and new ways of interacting with others in today’s interconnected world can help young
adults successfully transition into adulthood. Lessons he has learned as a young adult while pursuing his Ph.D. in clinical psychology fuel many of the questions posed to readers throughout the book (which includes a reader’s guide with discussion questions). Book clubs will prompt students to think of creative and innovative ways to grow personally and contribute to their local communities. Upon completion of the book, book clubs will have the opportunity to submit proposals for self-development or community service projects to iOpening Enterprises. Winning proposals will receive $500 or more toward their project.  For more information about how to get your school involved, complete the request form to the right.
